M. Stöger-Pollach:
"Investigation of optical and magnetic properties with high spatial resolution";
Vortrag: Seminar " Moderne Analytische Chemie", TU Wien, Österreich (eingeladen); 04.05.2012.

Kurzfassung englisch:
The world in electron microscopy has changed dramatically within the last ten years. Substantial progress was made in the instrumental development of transmission electron microscopes (TEMs). This is due to the invention of monochromator and to the lens systems correcting for the spherical aberration of the round electron lenses. Beside the significant instrumental progress the understanding of electron-matter interaction has also improved. At TU Vienna we focus our research on optical and magnetic transitions on the nano-scale by means of electron beam techniques. Exemplarily I will present the latest results on the determination of the optical properties of silicon, quantum wells and on mapping of magnetic properties. Finally I will discuss the creation of electron vortex beams for studying magnetic effects.
